Parking Violation, Rainer Prohaska, 2016
Installation Authorized by Rainer Prohaska
On View Through January 4, 2017

"A parking violation is the act of parking a motor vehicle in a restricted place or for parking in an unauthorized manner."  (Source: Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Prohaska's work often uses found materials re-purposed with transgressive humor. This sculptural installation overturns our notions of sculpture and demonstrates the power of art to question our assumptions about the urban landscape and public space.

This work was commissioned by Transformer Station and conceived and installed by the artist during a three-month residency.

Rainer Prohaska (b. Krems/Donau, Austria) is a conceptual artist who lives and works in Vienna. Rainer studied Experimental Design at Art University Linz, Experimental Media Art and Digital Art at University for Applied Arts in Vienna and Academy of Fine Arts Krakow. Prohaska has been invited to residencies around Europe, Asia and North America. His work/projects have been included in solo and group exhibitions internationally, including works at: Center of Contemporary Art MONA Innerspaces, PoznaƄ, Poland; V. Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art, Russia; Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center, China; 7th Berlin Biennale, Germany; Austria Contemporary, NCCA, Moscow, Russia; and LuminaTO 6, Toronto.
